THE A1 POSTERS

Review + poster layout ideas

My main ideas behind the poster layout is similar in terms of assignment two. As eye tracking was experimented with. The poster will maintain three main sections for content and images. Large image -> text -> small images or presented in the opposite layout. This is the way I would like to controll the viewers eyes accross the page. The posters layout avoids using the plan of redesign silkeborg as its layout. As I didnt want to be to cliche. The lines that cut accross my posters represent arrows as the can lead the eye across the page while maintaining an enternaining, powerful and sponaneous poster.

t
This image explored the idea of transending into a different environment which Utzon had played upon this theme presented in his Silkeborg model. H e had done this by using an array of columns. I used a similar technicque but my columns change in shape as you progress towards the building. My columns also stretch into the my silk borg model as I have tryed to convey a natural feel with the metal columns. The idea from this originates from the themes of how roots grow underground.

Final Finished renders

The project I undertook was a challenging one, in terms of modelling. My assignment wanted to express a building which resembled nature in a contemporary/abstract way. The interior shots here are explore the ideas of nature as this building sits between rocks within a cliff and being predominantly underground. everything above ground has an even bigger connection within the structure beneath ground. I wanted to incorporate the rock within which the building had layed in some what becoming a part with the nature and its environment.
I wanted large glass domes to allow sunlight into the building, i dont think Utzon explored into this aspect very much. I found this quite important so the building could allow sunlight into the building. Using predominantly rounded surfaces.. I wanted to maintain this organic feel by not allowing many sharp edges withing the structure. I maintained the structure to be white as i thought the contrast within the underground shadows and the above sunlight would be quite interesting.

Intensions - 250 words+

In approaching my redesigned SilkeBorg I am going to incorporate a lot of the initial ideas that Jorn Utzon had intended in the museum. Such as; the building being predominantly submerged beneath the ground and the connection the building has with its environment. The building will have a strong connection with its immediate surroundings as it will be quite regionalist towards its environment. I will progress and further more intend my building to have a strong connection with its topography.
My redesign will incorporate large objects that overwhelm the structure. Simple walls will become a part of something much larger and more significant than just a surface. Each of these objects will be a part of 4 sections. Each section will take the form of an egg shaped structure which will be excavated throughout. The building will be divided into one small, two medium and one Large section. Each will resemble a seed growing out of the ground as they will be embedded into the earth. Each section involve an assimilation towards the Chinese Caves of Tatung as they will be excavated into the ground and off the side of a cliff face.
The walk way will be similar in terms of pillars, large beams and columns to act as a portal into the museum. In differing from Jorn Utzon my walk way will progress and develop as you walk closer to enter my building. As you progress the pillars will develop and become more presented as an array of them will be more noticeable. This will exaggerate the transition into a new environment. Simply from the carpark / natural environment / built environment to the museum.
Each of these sections will have large skylights to allow natural sunlight into the building. The lighting will therefore be a product of the exterior climate. As the building is predominantly submerged a large light source is therefore needed to sustain the building.
The redesign will be quite different from Utzon’s original design. But I will have similar large rounded objects as he had intended, along with a small proportion of my building being present on the exterior.
The building will become more within its environment and quite regionalist as it will have an interacting relationship with its local aspects of its region. My overall theme is for this building to resemble a seed as they are starters for life. They need nature to grow and thus this idea will be expressed throughout my design.
